That era of Musharraf is over, the current condition of industires in Pakistan is evidence of this. I dont really know the reason but all the big projects were completed during a dictator's era. If you may recall the establishment of greatest project ever in Pakistan, those were embarked and completed during Ayub Khan's martial law. The Tarbela dam, Mangla dam, Steel Mill, Defence manufecturing fecilities in Wah cantt are to name a few. Then recently we witnessed a daramatic growth in industry, GDP, GDP per capita shooted from $450 to $2000!, the growth in education and other administrative improvements in Musharraf's era. But as i said earlier all that good is gone. Now what we see is just distruction.
The Federal minister for Industries Hazar Khan Bajrani stated in senate that in the last few years owning to diffirents reasons 2500 industries have closed their operations. About 700 in Sindh, 668 in Khybar Pakhtoon Kha, 115 in Punjab, and 29 industries in Balochistan have been shut down so far. In export proccessing zone 47 units have been closed. These are the statistics that government have, there are many other small units that have been shut. The situation is getting worse every day, if this is to go on then what we will see is unimaginable. A major reason for the shut down is shortage of electricity and gas loadsheding. Many businessmen have already moved their setups to Bangladesh and many others are planning to move. The second big reason is corruption, that is on ever high. According to recent World Bank report corruption is a big hurdle in establishing and running any industry in Pakistan.
