The Twitter Basics

The What?: Twitter is a kind of notice board or log book where you post whatever you are upto in less than 140 words. That could be what you are doing, eating, visiting, planning, learning, listening, playing, watching etc. You also use twitter to post your experience, thoughts, ideas, and opinion. Your posts are referred as tweets on twitter.
The Where?: You'll need a account at twitter to do so. Twitter is a website available on following URLs
a) from PC & Mobile

b) from Mobile
http://mobile.twitter.com
http://m.twitter.com
go there and create an account.
The Tip:Create an ID relevent to the user. i.e. For personal tweets make an account that has your name in it. For you company the ID should contain name of the company.
The Next?: There are millions of users at twitter, tweeting stuff like news, quotes, and personal activites. You may find some twitter intersting and some twitter might find your tweets worth reading. You may follow that perticular twitter, others may follow you too. By doing so you will be added to their profile and whatever you post is visible to your followers.
The Heck!: If you dont want to show your tweets to everyone you can protect your tweets from Settings tab and then only those will see your tweets whom you allow. The page where tweets are listed is called timeline.
The Terms!: While using twitter you'll encounter many terminologies
@ is place at the begining of a twitter ID. i.e. @tangywala
# is place at the begining of a topic. i.e. #Karachi
RT: Retweet is the term used when you retweet someone's tweet. The tweeted person gets the notification of your retweeting in his Mentions tab.
DM: Direct Messege is the tab where you recieve messeges from the person who is following you and you are following him/her. The DMs doesn't appear on the timeline.
Via: Same as RT
PRT: When you RT after editing the orignal tweet you usually place PRT instead of RT.
#FF: FollowFriday is the hashtag used to say thanks to twitters on Friday who RT your tweets.
The Length:
For longer than 140 words tweets you may use http://xltweet.com
To shorten a lengthy URL you may use http://bit.ly
The Integration:
You may integrate your twitter account with your http://www.facebook.com and many other social networks.
